2021.12.01 19:07 yu5sf Managed to grab a great deal on a Legion 7i 2070 Super, upgrading from my old 5i 1650. Is there anything I need to know about the i7-10875H + 2070 Super L7 that is important?
I'm aware of the iCue battery drain. May upgrade RAM to beyond 32+ as I hear they can actually support up to 64? Is there anything important about that?

2021.12.01 19:07 gs19ca613 GPU Suggestions
Hello, I'm in search of a new graphics card, but I can't find one in my price range. Does anyone have any recommendations for what graphics card I could get with up to $450? I'm looking for one that can play games like Minecraft and No Man's Sky, but I also would like one around 4-6GB in case I want to get a more VRAM intensive game. Thanks.

2021.12.01 19:07 TheVeryTallBoi nanpa pona (toki pona seximal, a semi-reasonable way to count)
I've had a recurring interest in toki pona for about two years now, and I love it to pieces, but there has always been one thing that bothers me, that being the number system. No, I'm not bothered by the fact that there isn't a number system at all. It's that the most common system is awful. It looks like letter vomit, it's nigh impossible to count with, the word:number ratio is all over the place; honestly, it's more of a botched tally system than anything.
Every single variation of it has the exact same flaws, regardless of the words used, the values assigned, and any form of attempted abbreviation. Most of these problems come from it essentially being spoken roman numerals. 1: The numbers get long very quickly 2: Numbers fluctuate wildly in length (the difference between 10 and 19 is often staggering) 3: It don’t scale exponentially (adding an extra word adds a static value rather than a power, which is wasteful) 4: The spoken words don't correlate well with the written numbers 5: It's very difficult to parse the words into usable information (long strings of luka and mute are really annoying)
I understand that the whole idea here is to remain "simple", but is this really the best we can do? I propose a system which I will now refer to as nanpa pona because I am full of myself. I have been through the depths and dregs of proposed number systems to make absolutely certain that what I am proposing today is wholly original (it's not totally, but kinda).
Going into nanpa pona I had a few criteria 1. It must be immediately understandable in a reasonable amount of time. A complex number system does not belong in toki pona. 2. It must use pre-existing vocabulary in a recognizable way, and each choice must have an explainable reason. No ko for five just because I felt like it. 3. It must solve the issues listed above as best as possible given the previous points.
So, given these criteria, I propose a spoken positional system. In English terms, this would mean saying 56 as five six, 194 as one nine four, and 1001 as one zero zero one. To achieve this I needed to not only figure out what words would represent what values, but also what base to use. After much thinking, I settled on base-6, and ala, wan, tu, mute, noka, and luka as my words.
This begs the question, why base-6? Not only is "seximal" a relatively well known method of counting in this community, it also fits near perfectly with what we already have. We have relatively agreed upon words for 0, 1, 2, 3, and 5, so given that this is a positional system, and thus six is not needed, I only needed to assign one value. four. Which begs question two, why noka? I ask a question back. What are your noka if not lower luka?
ala, wan, and tu are already zero, one and, two by definition, mute in sitelen pona is three tally marks and is often used as three, and luka is often used as five. I also propose that ale/ali be used as 00 as once again in sitelen pona the symbol is infinity, which looks like two zeroes, and ale/ali are commonly used as 100, and what is 100 if not 1 and 00.
Without further ado, nanpa pona (all units are in seximal)
Definitions 0: ala 1: wan 2: tu 3: mute 4: noka 5: luka 00: ale/ali* ** *** (Literally two consecutive zeros, interchangeable with ala ala) (ale/ali ALWAYS comes before ala if they are consecutive ie. 1000 wan ale ala and wan ali ala are both correct, but wan ala ali would not be) (**ale/ali are not mutually exclusive and may be used in the same number)
Examples 10: wan ala 11: wan wan 12: wan tu
23: tu mute 31: mute wan 45: noka luka 53: luka mute
100: wan ale 100: wan ali 100: wan ala ala 101: wan ala wan
555 (215 decimal): noka noka noka 1000 (216 decimal): wan ale ala 33233344 (1,000,000 decimal): mute mute tu mute mute mute noka noka 100321000044023515420: wan ala ala mute tu wan ali ale noka noka ala tu mute luka wan luka noka tu ala
This system takes absurdly high numbers to "break", and works extremely well for a long stretch of numbers. Additionally, it handles powers of six relatively well past the point where the rest of the system "breaks" which allows for big numbers like luka ale ale ale (5000000, or 233,280 decimal).
Also, to answer a question before it's asked, I originally did think of having ali be 00 and ale be 000, which while it would've allowed for better number compression, isn't really a good idea as the way they are used varies from person to person.
Please note that nanpa pona is not meant to be used in any context other than number communication. It should only be used when specifics are required or requested. wan, tu, and mute are plenty more than enough 99% of the time. This is not a rule however, I'm not your boss, do whatever you want.
nanpa pona is also purposefully not built to handle negatives, fractions, etc., as those are all complicated and don't gel to well with toki pona.
Finally, I apologize for any errors, oversights, and general mistakes. I have been working on this for almost 7 hours, and have gone through multiple iterations of this post. I need to finish it.

2021.12.01 19:07 madcats323 Anyone here ever work as a trainer or handler of horses in a war movie? I’d love to know what that’s like.
Or any kind of chaotic set. I’m watching a Civil War movie and I’m always amazed at the behavior of the horses while cannons are going off and rifles shooting and chaos is all around.
My horses are very good but by “very good,” I mean I can get them within a quarter mile of the train crossing or they’ll walk across a tarp. I can’t imagine what it takes to prep horses for that type of thing.
